NIKE’S FIRST MATERNITY LINE
Nike (M) is Nike’s first maternity performance collection, designed to support athletes through pregnancy without compromising identity, function, or style. I pioneered the project from pitching the idea to leadership, to commercialization, including design, pattern development, grading, prototyping, and the creation of an entirely new fit standard tailored to the pregnant athlete.
Leveraging over 150,000 body scans and insights from more than 100 athletes, I developed adaptive silhouettes capable of evolving across all stages of pregnancy. Fabrics were rigorously tested for stretch, recovery, and sustainability to ensure wear during and beyond pregnancy.
The collection launched globally, challenging cultural narratives in regions where pregnant women are traditionally expected to remain inactive, positioning movement and sport as empowering and essential.
The launch sold out within the first week and established a lasting global category for Nike. Redefining maternity performance apparel through innovation, inclusivity, and athlete-centered design.
The Research.
We had to start from the beginning before the design process could begin. Understanding the pregnant body was imperative to inform the fit patterns which are now the foundational blocks for Nike (M).
Design and Concepting.
As small team of 2 designers, we obsessed every detail ensuring we were creating with love and honesty every step of the way. We understood the energy we put into each stitch was going to reach mother’s all over the world .
