RIO 2016 OLYMPIC UNIFORMS
For the Rio 2016 Olympics, I created patterns from scratch, iterated prototypes, and led fittings for all Nike men’s and women’s track and field athletes. Working directly with elite competitors, I led insight groups to draw inspiration and redefine the Olympic kits. I over saw the grading, fit, and construction through continuous athlete feedback to achieve a true second-skin experience optimized for competition.
We developed and strategically integrated vortex generators into the garments to minimize wind resistance — an aerodynamic innovation rigorously validated through wind tunnel testing. Collaboration spanned designers, material developers, and athletes, with iterative testing conducted in climate chambers, on-track at Nike’s Sport Research Lab, and in athletes’ training environments worldwide. The resulting uniform system delivered exceptional fit and measurable performance benefits, earning athlete endorsement, media recognition, and internal acclaim. It became the gold standard for Olympic track and field apparel and remains the foundation for subsequent generations of performance uniforms.
